About Dr Greg Roberts
I am a Social Worker/Counsellor with a PhD and post-graduate training in the field of grief, bereavement and trauma and also as a clinical supervisor, trainer and educator. I currently provide counselling and support as a private practitioner and can offer counselling and support via phone and Zoom as required.
Much of my education. training and supervision work sees me travelling regularly across Melbourne, throughout Victoria and interstate.
I’ve worked as a grief, loss and trauma counsellor and support person for over 22 years. This field of work has been my main focus since 2001. My PhD at Deakin University focused on the lived experience of spontaneous creativity amongst bereaved parents after the death of a child.
I also have a strong affinity with philosophy and existentialism in particular and since 2009 I have completed training with the Centre for Existential Practice and continue to have an association with this Centre - www.cep.net.au
Contrary to popular belief, an existential approach is focused on the lived experience of each individual and is concerned with helping people to live their lives in a way that makes sense to them, while accepting that sometimes things happen that we can't change and we have to find ways to adapt to this.
I don’t see myself as the ‘expert’ relation to your life – you’re the expert in your life and my job is to help you live life in a way that makes sense to you.
I have experienced my own share of grief and trauma, including the death of my daughter at 25 days of age in 1995, the suicide of my 25 year old brother in 1975, the death of my 56 year old brother from Motor Neurone Disease in 2013 and the illness and deaths of both my mother and father in 1994 and 2002 respectively.
I have counselled and supported 100’s of people, young and old, through loss, deaths and traumatic events. Some of my knowledge comes from these experiences, alongside the knowledge and skills I’ve learnt through professional training.
For the past 20 years I have provided training and education Australia wide. I hold a TAE40110 Cert' IV in Training and Assessment and have over 35 years experience in Adult Education and Training.
If you would like to hear me speak about how I view grief, here is a link to an interview I did in 2023 -

I aim to provide services at a reasonable or low cost to people who see me for counselling and support. Regular fees are negotiated based on income, with all fees under $150 for a 1 hour session.
